Steelers Cake

I was asked to do a Steelers cake for a 12 year olds birthday for this weekend. He wanted a marble cake with chocolate icing. I hated the thought of doing an all brown cake, so I decided to do a base also. The base is a 9x13 marble cake covered in buttercream icing. On the sides I used the basketweave tip and on the top I used the grass tip to make it look like the football is sitting in the grass. The football is also a marble cake that I made using a shaped pan. It is covered in chocolate buttercream icing with a little bit of buttercream icing to add the details. I had trouble writing small enough with my tip to fit Steelers inside the circle of the logo, but I think it looks ok. I will be delivering the cake this morning. I think Taylor and his dad and going to like it.

Hannah Montana Cake

I was asked to do a Hannah Montana cake for a birthday party over the weekend. I decided to do a guitar to look like Hannah Montana's guitar out of marble cake. I put the guitar on top of a base that was two 9x13 yellow cakes side by side. I covered the entire cake in buttercream icing and also added the detail with buttercream. Sara and her mom loved the cake!

Harry Potter Cake

My son Isaac loves Harry Potter. So for his 10th birthday we had a Harry Potter party. For his cake he wanted a castle. The bottom tier was one and a half 9x13 butter cakes, the second tier was two 8 in round chocolate cakes, and the top tier was two 6 in round strawberry cakes. I covered each layer in buttercream and added blue gel icing for water around the castle. I used a graham cracker for the moat, sugar wafer cookies around the round tiers, and sugar cones for towers. I also added Hogwart's crest on the top tier. It turned out really good. Isaac and all his friends thought it was really cool.

Graduation Cake

In June, I was asked to do a graduation cake for a friend of ours. (Not sure why the date on the pic says January.) Kyle didn't care what it looked like but he knew he definitely wanted fondant. So I decided to do a few books and add a graduation cap to the top. For each of the 3 book layers, I used one and a half 9x13 cakes. I alternated each layer between butter and chocolate cake. I covered each layer in white buttercream icing, then wrapped each in a different color fondant, and added page marks to look like a book. For the top layer I used one and a half 6 in round chocolate cakes and wrapped it in white fondant. I then added a top to the hat and put on Kyle's actual tassel that he wore for graduation. It was a very time consuming cake but definitely worth it for the end result.

Sweet 16 Cake

I was asked to do a Sweet 16 cake but the weather was not on my side. The humidity caused the cake to do crazy things. =( The fondant kept sliding off the cake so I ended up covering it in buttercream and adding fondant accents. However, it was so humid the color separated from the icing. It definitely wasn't my best cake. However, I have learned new techniques that will hopefully help me when battling the humidity in the future.

Alvin and the Chipmunks Cake

My son Mason loves Alvin and the Chipmunks. For his 5th birthday he decided to have a Chipmunk party so of course I made him a Chipmunk cake. I stacked two 9x13 butter cakes and next to them I stacked two 9x13 chocolate cakes. Then I iced it all as one cake with buttercream and added The Chipmunks to the top.

Super Mario Bros Cake and Cupcakes

For my son Dominic's 6th birthday he wanted a Super Mario Bros party. I made him a 2 tier round cake for his party. The bottom layer was butter cake and the top layer was chocolate cake both covered in buttercream. I hand piped all the designs around the cake and added Super Mario figurines. Dominic wanted to take a special treat to school on his actual birthday. I decided to make cupcakes for him to take in. I hand piped all of them to look like mushrooms from Super Mario Bros.

Mickey Mouse Cake

For my son Joel's 2nd birthday, he wanted a Mickey Mouse party. For his cake, I made a 2 tier round cake. The bottom layer is a butter cake wrapped in fondant and the top layer is chocolate cake covered in buttercream. It was the first cake I had made other than in cake class so it had some flaws.Joel loved it and it was delicious. To me that's all that mattered! =)
